Robert C. Doerer

Director, Organization and Personnel Force Development

On August 10, 2015, Robert C. Doerer assumed duties as the Director of the Organization and Personnel Force Development Directorate, United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence at Fort Rucker.

A son of an Army lieutenant colonel, Doerer grew up on military bases around the world, including Thailand, Africa, and Vietnam – where he was born. In 1981, he graduated from Satellite High School, Satellite Beach, Florida before attending the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. He graduated USMA in 1985 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in Aviation. He proudly served a 30 year Army career before retiring as a colonel in May 2015.

Highlights of his Army operational tours include serving in leadership assignments with the 3d Armored Division (Germany), 3d Infantry Division (HAAF, Georgia), 1st Armored Division (Germany), and V Corps (Germany). In those assignments, he deployed as the 3AD Aviation Brigade Headquarters Company Commander during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, the 3ID Aviation Brigade Operations Officer for SFOR 8 (Bosnia-Herzegovina), the 1-501st Attack Battalion Commander during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and as the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade Commander where his units were in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he deployed, and Operation Enduring Freedom.

His other significant Army assignments include serving as an Observer-Controller at the National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California; Aide de Camp for the Commanding General, Aviation and Troop Command, St. Louis, Missouri; Staff Officer, Chief of Staff, Army, Washington, D.C.; Aviation Lieutenant Colonels Assignment Officer and Aviation Branch Chief, Human Resources Command, Alexandria, Virginia. He served as the Director of Officer Personnel Management, Human Resources Command, Fort Knox, Kentucky. He finished his career at Fort Rucker serving as the Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff for the USAACE Commanding General.

Mr. Doerer's military education includes the Aviation Officer Basic Course, the Aviation Officer Advanced Course, the Aviation Logistics Officer Advanced Course, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and Senior Service College at the Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree at the United States Military Academy and Master Degrees from the University of Central Michigan and the Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy.

Mr. Doerer’s military awards and decorations include the Army Distinguished Service Award, two Legions of Merit, four Bronze Star Medals, eight Meritorious Service Medals, two Air Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, and two Army Achievement Medals. He was also awarded the Combat Action Badge, Senior Aviator Badge, Parachutist Badge, and the Department of the Army Staff Badge.
