A native of Brownsville, Texas, Lt. Col. Juan-Carlos (JC) Segura is a Distinguished Military Graduate and received his Regular Army commission in 1998 through the University of Texas (UT) at Brownsville. He was assigned to the Aviation Branch and graduated flight school as an OH-58D Scout pilot in 1999.
Segura has served in a range of operational and broadening assignments including: Platoon Leader, 4th Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment (2000-2003); Assistant Squadron Operations Officer, 4th Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment (2003-2004); Company Commander, 1-210th Aviation Regiment (2004-2006); Assistant Operations Officer, 1st Aviation Brigade (2006-2007); Alpha Company Tactical (TAC) Officer, United States Military Academy Preparatory School (USMAPS; 2009-2011); Security Assistance Officer, United States Embassy in Pakistan (2011-2012); Executive Officer, 1-14th Aviation Regiment (2013); Executive Officer, 110th Aviation Brigade (2014); Aircraft Survivability Division Chief, Concepts and Requirements Directorate (CRD; 2015); and most recently as the G3 Aviation Officer for the 1st Armored Division (2015-2018).
Segura’s major deployment history includes Operation JOINT FORGE-SFOR X, (2001-2002); Operation IRAQI FREEDOM (2003-2004); Operation ENDURING FREEDOM (2007-2008); Office of the Defense Representative – Pakistan (ODR-P; 2011-2012); and most recently Operation INHERENT RESOLVE (2017-2018).
Segura’s professional military education includes the Aviation Officer Basic and Advanced Courses and the Army Command and General Staff College. He has been awarded a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from UT Brownsville and a master’s degree in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University in the City of New York.
Segura’s awards and decorations include: Defense Meritorious Service Medals, Meritorious Service Medals, Air Medals, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medals, Senior Aviator Badge, Parachutist Badge and Air Assault Badge.
