Command Sgt. Maj. Gerardo Gonzalez is a native of El Paso, Texas. He entered the U.S. Army on February 19, 1992, and completed basic training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was assigned to the 355th Medical Company in the Army Reserves at Fort Bliss, Texas. He entered active duty on August 12, 1993, and completed Advanced Individual Training at Fort Eustis, Virginia, as Scout Helicopter Repairer (15S).
Gonzalez’s past assignments include 7/1 Aviation in Ansbach, Germany; 3-4 Calvary in Schweinfurt, Germany; and the 2-25 ATK 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York. He applied and was selected to serve in the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne). After successfully completing assignments, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 160th SOAR (A) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, in 1998. There he served in all leadership roles from crew chief to flight platoon sergeant. He culminated his career in the 160th as company first sergeant for the Light Attack Helicopter Company and finally as the Aviation Maintenance company first sergeant until being selected to attend the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy in August 2012. After graduating from USASMA, he was assigned to the 209th ASB, where he served as the Support Operations SGM for the 25th Combat Aviation Brigade.
Gonzalez has deployed on numerous occasions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn and various contingency operations worldwide.
Gonzalez is a graduate of the resident Sergeants Major Course (Class 63), first sergeant course, SLC, ALC, and WLC. His awards and decorations are commensurate to those of his peers in his position.
