Lyster Army Health Clinic is located at the home of Army Aviation, Fort Rucker, Ala., and serves about 17,500 patients, including permanent-party Soldiers, Soldiers attending short-term schools, foreign Soldiers, Family members, and Retirees and their Family members.

LAHC is 220,000 sq. ft. and employs about 300 staff members made up of Soldiers, civilians and contractors. The busiest section of the clinic is the Pharmacy, which fills upward of 29,000 prescriptions per month.

LAHC has embraced the Patient-Centered Medical Home model throughout the clinic and recently consolidated its active duty flight status Soldiers into one clinic for better continuity of care. LAHC has 14 clinics (including four primary care teams) on the first floor and loans the second floor space to the Wiregrass VA.  Patients needing specialty care, such as surgeries, or consultations not provided within the clinics, are sent out to the surrounding network. Providers work closely with network specialists to ensure their patients receive the best care possible.

To keep the lines of communication open, LAHC participates in Secure Messaging. There are currently 4,000 patients who use Secure Messaging. The turnaround time for a response from a provider is about 24 hours. Enrollment can be accomplished by visiting or asking your provider to sign you up at your next appointment.

LAHC underwent a $15 million clinic transformation in the last 18 months, including the adoption of Patient-Centered Medical Homes (PCMH), new behavioral health, physical therapy and chiropractic clinics, a new laboratory, upgraded equipment, new glass walls throughout the facility and the overhaul of the pharmacy and laboratory areas.
