Col. Thomas von Eschenbach was commissioned in June 1991 after earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Auburn University where he was an Army ROTC Distinguished Military Graduate. After completing Aviation Officer Basic Course, the Initial Entry Rotary Wing Course and Ranger School, he was assigned to 1st Battalion (Attack), 82nd Aviation Regiment at Fort Bragg, N.C., where he served as Headquarters Headquarters Company executive officer, platoon leader and battalion adjutant. The Capability Development and Integration Directorate develops Aviation operational concepts, determines operational capability requirements and shapes science and technology for Army Aviation. CDID develops, designs and documents Army Aviation force structure for current and future Aviation organizations.
CDID serves as a user representative in the acquisition process for current and future Army Aviation platforms and related systems. They conduct experimentation, data collection and analysis to validate Army Aviation warfighting concepts and capabilities. CDID explores the potential of emerging science and technology initiatives and assesses the doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leadership and education, personnel and facilities implications of Army Aviation initiatives.
Concepts, Experimentation, and Analysis Directorate (CEAD) identifies capability gaps, and develops appropriate requirements to mitigate and close capability gaps for the future Army Aviation force. More
Organization and Personnel Force Development develops Army Aviation organizational requirements; assesses existing force structures; identifies deficiencies and capability gaps; and proposes solutions in the form of new or modified organizational designs. More
