Soldier for Life Transition Assistance Program (Formerly ACAP)

The mission of the SFL TAP is to deliver top-quality customer service to Fort Rucker SFL clients by aiding them in understanding their benefits, and to meet their individual transition and job assistance needs.

What is SFL TAP?

The SFL TAP provides transition and employment assistance to Soldiers and their adult Family members who are transitioning from active duty, veterans and retirees, and DoD civilian employees in a Reduction in Force status. Pre-separation planning includes benefits information, job search skills development, career guidance, job search assistance and other guidance relevant to a thorough transition.

Why is SFL TAP Important?

In addition to giving vital direction to one's transition, pre-separation planning through SFL TAP is Congressionally mandated by Public Law 107-103 and the VOW Act, 21 Nov 12. That means that all separating Soldiers, regardless of rank or component, who have at least 180 days of continuous Active Duty service are required to complete all VOW Act requirements by attending all SFL core courses, the Department of Labor Employment Workshop, and VA Benefits briefings within the VOW Act timelines. Most of the VOW Act requirements can be accomplished by attending a 5-day Employment Workshop soon after completing your initial pre-separation counseling.

As a result, your installation will not let you clear until you have received this training. A completed DD Form 2648 and DD Form 2958, which you will receive from your supporting SFL Center, is your proof that you have received the required counseling. Soldiers cannot clear Fort Rucker without these checklists. Retiring Soldiers can begin using ACAP two years prior to retirement and Soldiers who are separating can begin using SFL TAP up to 18 months prior to ETS.

How Do I Get Started?

Please call (334) 255-2558 or visit the Department of the Army ACAP website to learn more about pre-separation information and planning.

SFL TAP Preseparation Briefings

Preseparation briefings take approximately 1.5 hours to complete and can be done online at SFL If you desire to do it in the SFL Center, please call (334) 255-2558.

5-Day TAP Employment Workshops

TAP workshops are designed to teach you how to job search and will prove useful for the rest of your life. Additionally, VA subject matter experts will brief you on all your VA benefits at the workshop. Workshops are held Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Call (334) 255-2558 or (334) 255-1117 to register and schedule for a workshop.
